I want to address a major issue that I come across in my work, especially when it comes to coaching and the coaching industry. The problem involves people who are consciously or unconsciously making decisions from the place of needing approval. This can be a dangerous game because if they make the wrong decision they’re not going to get approval, which causes an extraordinary amount of pain and a paralyzing fear. This type of situation keeps a person from taking a chance, laying it all on the line, and doing the things they really want to do. They unknowingly retreat to a place of safety and security, which is stifling to say the least.
To be honest, approval addiction is not the problem but rather a symptom of something more simplistic in nature. Authority.
